Putin: Russia can keep gas supplies across Ukraine after 2024
MOSCOW, Feb 15 (PRIME) -- Russia will be ready to transport gas to Germany across Ukraine after 2024, if sees demand and profitability, President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference after the Russian–German negotiations on Tuesday,
"I want to emphasize as well that we are ready to keep gas deliveries across Ukraine even after 2024, when the current gas transit contract across this country expires. Naturally, if there is demand of the European partners, if this is profitable, and Ukraine’s gas transportation system is technically operable," Putin said.
Putin also said that historically Russia sold gas to Germany under long-term contracts even in the periods of high market prices and deficit. For instance, in 2021, Russia sold 50.7 billion cubic meters.
He also said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a commercial project, which has no political meaning.
